Xu Feihong: India, China 'partners, not rivals'

China's Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's forthcoming visit to China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit will be "a very important event not only for the SCO but for the bilateral relationship between the two countries".

He added that both sides were preparing to ensure the success of the visit, which Beijing "attaches great importance to".
Xu's comments followed Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi's visit to New Delhi earlier this week. Wang co-chaired the 24th round of the Special Representatives' dialogue on the boundary question with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on 19 August, held talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, and called on Prime Minister Modi.
