Women in Global Tech Missions: Karnataka’s Big Bet

When Karnataka unveiled its IT Policy 2025-2030 earlier this year, one line item stood out: a “Women in Global Tech Missions” scheme that promises to train 1,000 mid-career women for global technology leadership, backed by a Rs 46 crore budget.
In a state that already sees itself as India’s tech capital, this is an explicit attempt to plug the most persistent gap in the sector - the near-absence of women in decision-making roles.
On paper, the scheme is ambitious. Policy documents and ministerial briefings describe a mix of deep-tech and policy training - AI governance, cybersecurity, data privacy, platform regulation, tech diplomacy - delivered through partnerships with industry and universities. Selected fellows are expected to get intensive coursework, mentorship from senior leaders, international exposure visits, and support to work on live projects with government or global tech companies.
