Trump's 50% Tariffs on India Tied to BRICS, Sindoor Row: Swarup

Former diplomat Vikas Swarup has attributed US President Donald Trump's steep 50% tariffs on Indian goods to a mix of geopolitical and trade tensions, including Trump's belief that India has not credited him for brokering peace with Pakistan after Operation Sindoor.
In an interview with ANI, Swarup said the tariffs stem from three factors: India's membership of BRICS, which Trump allegedly sees as an "anti-America alliance" seeking to challenge the dollar; his frustration over India's rejection of his claimed role in mediating the post-Sindoor ceasefire; and ongoing bilateral trade disputes.
