Stubble burning: MP leaves Punjab, Haryana behind

Out of total 25,108 incidents reported in the country, the highest 10,743 incidents of farm fires have been reported in Madhya Pradesh, followed by 8,404 in Punjab, 2,660 in Delhi, 2,807 in Rajasthan and 1,082 in Haryana.
In an unexpected development, Madhya Pradesh, the home state of Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Chouhan, has emerged as the top contributor in stubble burning cases, shifting the spotlight from traditionally notorious states of Punjab and Haryana.
The surge in incidents of farm fires came amid the ongoing blame game and repeated rebukes by the Supreme Court to Punjab and Haryana for their failure to put a complete check on stubble burning.
