Singhvi criticises Centre on Constitutional norms, calls for caste census

At the second and the last day of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) session in Ahmedabad, party leader Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Chairman of the Law, Human Rights and RTI department of the AICC, attacked the central government regarding its respect for constitutional norms and democratic processes while demanding a nationwide caste census to ensure social justice and equitable distribution of resources.

Singhvi alleged that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government was systematically undermining the fundamental pillars of India's democratic framework. A significant portion of Singhvi's address addressed the contentious issue of federalism as he cited the recent intervention by the Supreme Court in the prolonged delay of assent to bills passed by the Tamil Nadu state legislature by the Governor as a glaring example of what he termed executive overreach and a blatant disregard for the spirit of cooperative federalism enshrined in the Constitution.
