Yet a quieter countertrend is becoming easier to spot—women opting out of the New Year's self-optimization script and choosing rest, boundaries, and “good-enough” systems instead.Part of the shift is plain fatigue with the ritual. In a Pew Research Center survey, 70% of adults in the United States reported making no New Year's resolutions; among them, a majority said they simply don't like making resolutions. While that data is not India-specific, it captures a global mood: the resolution season can feel less like hope and more like performance.

It also lands in a moment when “wellness” has become a giant consumer marketplace. The Global Wellness Institute estimates the global wellness economy reached $6.8 trillion in 2024 and continues to grow.
