Putin-Trump Summit Likely Next Week, Confirms Kremlin

Russia on Thursday confirmed that preparations are underway for a possible summit between President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump next week, amid mounting pressure for a ceasefire in Ukraine and the threat of new economic sanctions.
Kirill A Dmitriev, Putin's envoy for investment and economic cooperation, announced on social media platform X: "Russia confirms Putin-Trump summit may happen next week and summit preparations are ongoing. This can be a historic meeting. Dialogue will prevail."
The confirmation follows a three-hour meeting in Moscow on Wednesday between Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff and Putin, described by Kremlin officials as "useful and constructive."
Al Jazeera reported that the talks came just ahead of a Friday deadline set by the White House for Russia to agree to a peace deal or face further economic penalties.
