Mamata, Abhishek slam BJP, EC over 'corruption, intimidation'
The Daily Guardian
|August 29, 2025
Trinamool Congress supremo and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, along with her nephew and national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the BJP and the Centre from the dais of the Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) Foundation Day celebrations, accusing them of governance failures, welfare lapses, and disrespect towards Bengal's identity.
Taking a swipe at the BJP, Mamata Banerjee contrasted her party's welfare schemes with what she termed the saffron party's corruption.
"We have Lakshmir Bhandar. They have Corruption Bhandar," she said, adding that she would never allow anyone to snatch away people’s voting rights during her lifetime.
Responding to charges of dynasty politics, Mamata Banerjee targeted Union Home Minister Amit Shah. “Your son heads the International Cricket Board. Is that not family politics?” she asked.
Alluding to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, she remarked: “How many of your family members hold posts as IAS, IPS, or in other top institutions across India?”
She also cautioned people against tampering of voter rolls. “They have brought 500 teams from across India to strike names off voter lists. Do not share your details with them — they will misuse your number. Instead, check your name yourself. Keep Aadhaar ready; it has been made compulsory,” she urged.
