Keoladeo National Park: A Smart Wetland Model for Conservation and Sustainable Tourism

Keoladeo National Park, also known as Ghana Bird Sanctuary, located in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, has long been recognized as one of India's premier bird sanctuaries. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known globally for its diverse bird species and rich ecosystem. In 2024-25, the park has undertaken significant steps toward the development of a state-of-the-art conservation model that integrates technology, sustainable tourism, and community participation, making it a leading example for other protected areas in India and around the world.

The park has made substantial strides in improving infrastructure and enhancing the visitor experience, all while ensuring that its ecological balance remains intact. Under the direction of IFS officer and Keoladeo National Park Director Manas Singh, the park's conservation efforts have been paired with modern technological advancements, bringing together the best of nature conservation and sustainable tourism management.

One of the primary developments in 2024-25 has been the reconstruction of the BT (Black Top) Road, which has vastly improved accessibility for tourists. Previously, the road was in disrepair, making it difficult for visitors to fully explore the park. With this upgrade, the path has become smoother and easier to navigate, providing a better experience for tourists while ensuring minimal impact on the environment. Along with this, the maintenance of older tracks has been given priority, enhancing comfort for those touring the sanctuary.
