A comprehensive sun protection regimen must include sunscreen. They help in delaying the onset of wrinkles and early aging (such as sunburn and leathery skin). Sunscreens are also helpful in lowering the risk of skin cancer and similar skin reactions to sunburn. Sunscreens can't shield you from all of the sun's rays. Sunscreens come in a variety of forms, including cream, lotion, gel, sticks, sprays, and lip balms.

Is your sunscreen safe? 6 myths debunked by expert

Dr. Shweta Mishra, Facial, Cosmetic and Aesthetic Surgeon from Sharva Clinic, Rohini and Pitampura New Delhi helps debunking some sunscreen myths, let's have a look at that:

MYTH 1 - THE PROTECTION IS BETTER IF THE SPF IS HIGHER
Fact - While it is true that a higher SPF offers greater protection from UVB radiation, it is necessary to keep in mind that SPF only measures UVB radiation protection and not UVA radiation. Skin damage and an elevated risk of skin cancer can both be brought on by UVA radiation. As a result, look for broad-spectrum sunscreens that offer UVA and UVB protection.

imageMYTH 2 - DARK SKINNED PEOPLE DO NOT REQUIRE SUNSCREEN
Some people hold the opinion that people with darker skin types do not need to use sunscreen. This is so that melanin can diffuse UVB rays and, to a certain extent, defend against sunburns.
