India has been formally awarded the 2030 Commonwealth Games, with Ahmedabad set to host the historic centenary edition.
India has been formally awarded the hosting rights for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, returning the global multi-sport event to the country after 20 years. Ahmedabad has been ratified as the host city at the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in Glasgow, where delegates from 74 member nations and territories endorsed India's bid.
The 2030 edition will mark the 100th anniversary of the Commonwealth Games, first held in 1930 in Hamilton, Canada, and is being hailed as a historic milestone for India and the wider Commonwealth sporting community.
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) said the decision reflects the confidence placed in India's vision, bid and sporting infrastructure. The Games will be centred around Ahmedabad—referred to as “Amdavad” in the IOA statement—with the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave as the main venue, supported by the Gujarat Police Academy and Veer Savarkar Sports Complex.
