Haryana Cabinet Approves Pension Reforms for State Govt Employees

In a move aimed at improving financial security for state employees, the Haryana Cabinet led by Chief Minister Nayab Saini has approved two key pension-related reforms — the restoration of commuted pension after 15 years of retirement and the adoption of a new Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) under the National Pension System (NPS).

The Cabinet approved an amendment to Rule 95(2) of the Haryana Civil Services (Pension) Rules, 2016, allowing retired government employees to receive the full pension amount that they had earlier commuted (taken as a lump sum) once 15 years have passed from their date of retirement. The chief minister claimed that the decision addressed a long-pending demand from pensioners and is aimed at providing them better financial stability and dignity in their later years.
