Desecration of Kali idol in West Bengal sparks political clash between BJP-TMC
The Daily Guardian
|October 24, 2025
Desecration of a Goddess Kali idol in West Bengal’s South 24-Parganas district sparked fierce political confrontation between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC).
Locals of Suryanagar Gram Panchayat in Kakdwip woke on Wednesday to discover the mutilated idol inside a village temple, igniting outrage and rapid escalation into a broader clash. This led to sporadic protests in Kolkata and in Kakdwip.
The controversy broke out when visuals of the damaged idol—its head cut off—surfaced, rapidly circulating across social media platforms and triggering a cascade of accusatory statements.
