Delimitation: Stalin for Status Quo for 30 Years

The all-party meeting in Tamil Nadu, presided over by Chief Minister M K Stalin, passed a resolution on Wednesday seeking Prime Minister Narendra Modi's assurance in Parliament that delimitation, if done, will be based on 1971 population census for 30 years starting 2026.

Sixty-four parties were called for all-party meeting on Constituency Delimitation in which 58 parties (including organisations) participated. The AIADMK, the Congress and Left parties, actor-politician Vijay's TVK, Kamal Haasan-founded Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) among others attended the meeting which was boycotted by the BJP, Tamil nationalist Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) and former union minister GK Vasan's Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar).

As per the resolution, "This all-party meeting unanimously strongly opposes delimitation based on population, which is seen as a big threat to India's federal structure and Tamil Nadu and other Southern States representation."
