Congress slams BJP for subsidy cuts, import restrictions on DAP

BJP's mismanagement and anti-farmer policies responsible for fertiliser shortages nationwide

Indian National Congress leader and MP Randeep Singh Surjewala has fiercely criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for what he calls a "manmade disaster" over the severe shortage of DAP (Di-Ammonium Phosphate) fertilizer affecting farmers across Haryana, Punjab, and other states. According to Surjewala, the DAP scarcity, exacerbated by alleged subsidy cuts, import restrictions, and mismanagement by the BJP-led government, has led to chaos and distress among farmers preparing for the Rabi season.

Surjewala highlighted a dire situation across rural regions, where thousands of farmers are queuing up from early dawn, some even facing police action in their efforts to obtain DAP. Many are forced to purchase fertilizer at inflated black-market prices or bundle it with pesticides and seeds, further burdening them financially. In several areas, police resorted to lathi charges to control crowds, and limited DAP supplies were reportedly distributed through police stations to manage shortages.
