Congress calls GDP growth numbers 'deceptive'

Ahead of Parliament's Budget Session, the Congress on Thursday claimed that headline inflation-adjusted GDP growth figures are “deceptive”, arguing that the prevailing economic model is discouraging private investment.
In a post on X, Congress general secretary and communications in-charge Jairam Ramesh said the growth numbers appear inflated because price deflators are unusually low. While this may suit the Modi government, he said it reflects weak consumer demand caused by stagnant incomes outside the top segment of the population.
