Assam: Congress eyes contesting 100 seats, Opposition partners uneasy

Raijor Dal president and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi has said he does not agree with the recent stand taken by Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on the ongoing talks over opposition seat-sharing in Assam.

He said discussions among opposition parties are still underway and will continue.Akhil Gogoi said such sensitive political negotiations should not be conducted openly through the media. He added that seat-sharing talks should not become fodder for daily news debates or television panel discussions, and should instead be handled through direct political engagement among the parties concerned.

He pointed out that Gaurav Gogoi himself had earlier maintained that seat-sharing discussions should not be conducted through the media, and questioned why the same principle was not followed this time. He said he could not accept this sudden change in approach.

The Raijor Dal leader said all opposition parties must work together with patience and mutual respect during the negotiations. He added that if unity is the objective, leaders should avoid public statements that could create confusion among workers and supporters.
