When President Cyril Ramaphosa delivers the State of the Nation Address (Sona) today, experts anticipate few substantive changes in government's approach to the struggling health care system. Vice-chair of the Unity Forum for Family Practitioners Dr Angelique Coetzee painted a stark picture of the current health care landscape.

"SA's health care is not in a good space, whether it's public or private. The public sector is in ICU and the private sector is in high care," she said.

The challenges plaguing the system are multifaceted.

"We've got infrastructure, funding and HR problems," said Coetzee.
