Umalusi Issues Clean Bill of Health for Last Year's Exams

Matric examination custodian Umalusi said yesterday there were no detected cases of paper leakages or other irregularities that could have compromised the overall credibility and integrity of the 2024 matric exams.
CEO Dr Mafu Rakometsi said this at a media briefing yesterday where he announced the 2024 national exam results before their release today.
According to Rakometsi, out of 880 209 candidates registered to write the NSC exam under the department of basic education, 810 900 managed to write. This means that 69 309 of the registered students did not sit for the exams.
In October, Umalusi raised concern over the shortage of markers for history, Afrikaans first additional language, and English home language paper 3 subjects.
However, Rakometsi said the issue was resolved.
“I can confirm that the department of basic education indeed managed to put in place plans to ameliorate the situation.
“Umalusi is also pleased that load shedding, adverse weather and protests did not materially impact the exams,” he said.
