Tiger Brands seeks sweet spot

Tiger Brands has yet to finalize the future of its Beacon chocolate business based out of Durban, saying a sale is just one of several options on the table.

"The disposal of non-core operations is one of the options that will be considered among others," the company said.

"In the interim, management will continue to responsibly invest in the business and ensure that these operations are managed accordingly."

It said its non-core brands will remain fully operational until final decisions have been made and added that it remains committed to responsible decision making, including protecting jobs and preserving Beacon's legacy.

Earlier this year Tiger Brands announced plans to sell its Beacon chocolate brand, saying it was non-core to its portfolio. However, it planned to retain the highly profitable marshmallows and Maynards gums side of the business.
