The ANC goes into crisis mode

Challenges facing the ANC national democratic revolution, the party's transformation agenda and the government of national unity (GNU) crisis featured high on the agenda of the party's regional general council (RGC) organised nationwide over the weekend.

The two-day meetings were a direct response to the ANC's weakened position following its historic poorest election performance in 2024, as well as the continued disunity that is seen as undermining its 2022 unity and renewal project.

Its position is further complicated by the SACP's insistence on standing alone in the 2026 local government election, a disgruntled electorate and an alleged "right-wing onslaught" on the ANC's transformation agenda.
