Sundowns set for 8 in a row
The Citizen
|May 07, 2025
The final act of the 2024-25 football season is rapidly unfolding and there's awesome action ahead, including a Champions League semi-final decider tonight, the Nedbank Cup final on Saturday and an El Clasico on Sunday that could decide whether Barcelona or Real Madrid wins La Liga - and there's mega cash to be won with TAB, notably six added and carryover pools plus a guaranteed R19-million pot if there is only one outright winner of Saturday's Soccer 13.
Tonight sees Mamelodi Sundowns look to move one step closer to yet another league title, potentially taking away some of the intense focus on Saturday's Nedbank Cup final.
Sundowns have moved within touching distance of a record-extending eighth successive league title and they have five matches in which to gather the necessary points, starting tonight against Chippa United at Loftus Versfeld where they are heavily fancied to keep up their winning ways.
Given their vastly superior goal difference over second-placed Orlando Pirates, they could ensure the title on Sunday when they play at home again, this time to Stellenbosch.
That will be a tougher encounter than the Chippa clash, but Sundowns should still have far too many guns and will be keen to take off the pressure ahead of their African Champions League assignment against Pyramids of Egypt later this month.
