Summer Cup a roaring success

TRIUMPH: REVAMPED VENUES SUPERB, WONDERFUL ATMOSPHERE AND BRILLIANT RACING

Last week saw Joburg's biggest meeting take place and it was headed up by the R6-million Betway Summer Cup.

What an absolutely brilliant day it turned out to be!

It was a unique experience for me, having to watch such a big day from the sidelines, but I really want to thank 4Racing, for the opportunity to work as a presenter and host in one of the venues on the day.

In my opinion, this was one of the best day's racing I've ever experienced and well done to everyone concerned for putting on a phenomenal event.

I would like to take the opportunity to say well done to 4Racing for the renovations they completed at their venues. I can't believe what a difference it has made, and it's really giving life to everyone there.

All stakeholders were absolutely chuffed on the day, and I'm looking forward to what else is in store.

The racing itself was out of the top drawer, and we saw some star performances on the day.

Starting with the big one, the Grade 1 Betway Summer Cup, and Atticus Finch won a superb race to showcase his true ability.

He was the talking horse last year and somewhat disappointed, but a year in the life of a horse can make the world of difference and trainer Alec Laird prepped him to perfection, to get him to win in convincing fashion.

Well done to all the connections, as well as Calvin Habib for the big win.

Quid Pro Quo produced an effort of a true champion, when demolishing the field in the Grade 2 Betway Dingaans.

This was her first run after a break and against the males and it was one of the most impressive wins I've ever seen.

She put the race to bed instantly and showed she is the best filly in the country, and it will be interesting to see where she goes from here.

Well done to Barend Botes for the great training feat, as well as her owners and Piere (Strydom) for the lovely ride.
