HOPEFUL: THREE-YEAR-OLDS SEEK PLACES IN HISTORY WITH THE RUNNING OF THE GAUTENG GUINEAS

- Muzi Yeni

Quest for Crown, Tiara begins

Last Saturday saw the running of the World Sports Betting Cape Town Met and what a meeting it turned out to be.

See It Again secured victory in this prestigious race in the most convincing way. A top-class performer from his three-year-old career, it was lovely to see him regain another Grade 1 event.

What a day it turned out to be for Andrew Fortune who has been remarkable in his comeback and was able to produce another great feat of riding.

Well done to all concerned for putting together such a lovely day.

Racing tomorrow takes place on the Standside track at Turffontein and there is a nine-race card to preview.

This meeting signals the start of the Joburg summer season which is incredible, and also heralds the start of this year’s TAB SA Triple Crown and Wilgerbosdrift SA Triple Tiara.

The two races that get them underway are the Grade 2 TAB Gauteng Guineas and the Grade 2 Wilgerbosdrift Gauteng Fillies Guineas, both over 1600m.

I have seven carded rides and I'll be hoping to get this part of the season off to a flying start.

We'll get straight into the day and Race 1 is a Juvenile Plate for Fillies over 1000m and I think Griselda is the filly they all have to beat.

Her debut run was outstanding and the form has worked out really well. With her receiving weight from Custodian, I think it will be enough for her to be victorious and she should be very hard to beat.

Custodian won a really good race last time out but she does have to give 3kg to the other five runners and although she was impressive when winning, she faces a tough task. However, she remains the main danger.

There was massive support for Lanzarote on debut and even though she returns from a small rest, she must be respected and included in all bets.

Watch the betting and canter past for the best guide to the chances of the unraced runners.
