Fact checkers have long played an important role in curbing misinformation on various platforms, especially on topics like politics, public health and climate change. By verifying claims and providing context, they have helped platforms maintain a degree of accountability.

So, Meta's move to replace them with community-driven notes, similar to Elon Musk's approach on X, has understandably raised concerns.
