Highest-grossing musical screening in SA cinemas

Moana 2, the captivating, epic animated musical from Walt Disney Animation Studios has become the highest-grossing animated film of all time at the South African box office, surpassing Frozen 2.

When it was released in cinemas across the continent on 29 November, the film became an instant hit, becoming the highest opening weekend of all time for any animated film released at the East and West African box office, the highest opening weekend of 2024 at the East African box office and the second highest opening weekend of 2024 at the West and Southern African box offices.

Moana 2 also continues to dominate the global box office crossing the $1 billion (about R18.5 billion) making it the #12 animated release of all-time globally and #4 Walt Disney Animation Studio release of all time.
