On the roof of the world
One of the strangest pieces of advice a tourist might get on arrival at their destination is not to shower for at least two days. But in Tibet (the "roof of the world"), you ignore this advice at your peril.
The reason, they say, is that the altitude of the country (also known in China as the Xizang Autonomous Region) is situated on a plateau more than 3,000 meters above sea level poses health risks.
