Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall. Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the king's horses and all the king's men couldn't put Humpty together again.
The nursery rhyme, first recorded in 1797, originally ended: “Fourscore men and fourscore more could not make Humpty Dumpty where he was before.”
It’s a metaphor that resonates far beyond children’s verse.
In 2026, the world order, peace and even local service delivery resemble Humpty’s shattered shell - collapsed, and no-one can put it back together again.
