Woltemade is answering the critics in his homeland in the best

NICK Woltemade is making a mockery of his £69 million transfer fee with Newcastle United.

For all the questions over the hefty fee that the Magpies paid Stuttgart and rattled Bayern Munich in the process, Woltemade is answering them by bringing goals to Newcastle, much to the dejection of German legends Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Uli Hoeness, who brutally labelled the 6ft 6in striker overpriced.

But what can't be denied is that Woltemade is in a rich vein of form for club and country, with five goals in his last five matches for the Magpies and Germany. However, he admits that his latest strike meant little as it didn’t deliver either a victory or a solitary point for Newcastle.

Speaking after the 2-1 loss at Brighton, Woltemade said: “It was hard to take. We had situations where we could have scored more, but didn't.

“I thought the way we started well in the second half, and believed we could have won the game.

“When you work so hard for a goal and when it is a great team goal, then we have the emotion to win the game.

“Even at 2-1 we thought we could get something.”
