Woltemade in great Nick as goals flow in Brussels

NICK Woltemade looked every inch a £69million star during Newcastle United's rout in Brussels after helping pave the way for an important Champions League victory.

- By LEE RYDER

His towering presence applied pressure on the Union SG goal and after opening the scoring with a deft flick, he was hungry for more. So much in fact that when Newcastle were awarded a penalty, the German striker, so keen, was held back from trying to grab the ball from Anthony Gordon.

Joelinton did his teammate a favour but it was great to see so many stars hungry to get on the scoresheet on a night that had been deemed a potentially tough Euro mission for the Magpies. But in the end they absolutely coasted to victory as the goals flowed like a fine Belgian beer.

And as Gordon weighed in with two perfect penalties, Woltemade's strike and a goal off the bench for Harvey Barnes secured an important victory for United, one that changes the context of their Champions League season perhaps.
