Wissa not ready for United debut for at least two months
The Chronicle
|October 04, 2025
NEWCASTLE United's new No 9 Yoane Wissa will have to wait a little longer for his Magpies debut after suffering a set back.
The DR Congo international suffered a knee injury while on duty for his country, but has been assessed further and won't make it back for his projected return date which Howe had indicated would be at Brighton & Hove Albion later this month.
Howe said: "Yoane saw a specialist again yesterday for a checkup. We probably think now it'll be eight weeks rather than six. No recurrence or problem, just slightly longer."
When asked if he would be ready for an immediate challenge with Nick Woltemade, Howe said: "Yoane is not really in that train of thought at the minute. He's still trying to get fit and feel good within his body.
"When he's fit then he'll be thinking, like all players do, that he wants to get his position and earn his shirt.
"From Nick's side, he's got competition from Will Osula. There is good competition but Yoane is one that will add a different dynamic."
