ROSS Wilson's track record in the transfer market was one of the things that attracted Newcastle United to their new sporting director, but it could come back to bite him in the summer.

- By ROSS GREGORY Head of sport

Wilson’s ability to spot deals and move well in the transfer market has helped establish his name in Premier League circles. He was involved in Southampton's £13m move for Virgil van Dijk, who eventually joined Liverpool for £75m, and also helped Rangers make around £18m on Calvin Bassey, while being responsible for Nottingham Forest’'s bargain signings of Nikola Milenkovic, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Murillo.

Wilson, of course, also played a key role in a transfer that brought him further to United's attention in the summer of 2024. Then acting as Forest's director of football, he secured the signing of Elliot Anderson for £35m, with Odysseas Vlachodimos moving the other way in a £20m switch.
