United fans can win 'incredible' painting

When Newcastle United paraded the Carabao Cup through the city in March, artist Kevin Day was perched at the end of Percy Street and - painting live - produced an incredible painting.

His work captures the mood of the day and immortalises the celebratory spirit that took over the city - and he’s now donated it to the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.

The fund - part of Newcastle Hospitals Charity — is to receive the proceeds from raffling the painting. Tickets are £10 and proceeds will support the charity's work supporting cancer patients and building a £30m new clinical trials centre.

The painting is called, appropriately, The Parade - and Kevin captured it by “painting ‘en plen air”. That means he was literally set up watching the parade come down the street, paintbrush in hand.

The South Shields-based artist said: “I knew I wanted to paint that moment when the whole city came together to celebrate the cup win. It was challenging to paint because it was quite windy that day and I had to secure my board to the railings.
