Thousands take part in annual run

IT WAS a fitting finale to a weekend of action as thousands of people, watched by thousands more, took part in the Great North 10k. The annual event kicked off on the Central Motorway in Newcastle yesterday morning - the same spot as the main Great North Run itself - and similarly crossed the iconic Tyne Bridge into Gateshead.
But the Great North 10k runners then return over the bridge to finish on the Town Moor. City centre roads along the route closed for the occasion and were lined by crowds of spectators cheering on the runners.
