Hollow Knight: Silksong will dominate most gamers’ time this month, but these indie alternatives are worth a look

- CHERYL MULLIN

THE biggest indie game release of the month, Hollow Knight: Silksong, has already landed, and many indie studios shifted the release of their games to get out of its way.

While thousands of gamers will have spent their first September weekend once again immersed in that beautiful Hollow Knight world, there are other indie titles bobbing on the horizon that will also be worth your attention.

This has been an incredible year for indie games, with two of Metacritic’s top five rated titles of 2025 so far coming from smaller studios. Not only are indie games often more pocket-friendly, time and again they've proven to be as good - if not better - than their AAA counterparts.

So if Silksong is not your thing, or you’re looking for a palate cleanser, then I suggest you check out the following...

HELL IS US

(PEGI 18) PS5, xBox x/s, PC, price: £44.99

I feel really sorry for Rogue Factor, the development team behind this dark, action-adventure game.

A September 4 release date had already been committed to when, three weeks ago, Team Cherry announced Silksong would be released on the same date.

So it was impossible to shift the launch, and give Hell is Us a chance to breathe on its own.
