Surprises, naivety and some changes

That all changed against Arsenal, renowned as the set piece kings of the last two seasons.

Newcastle had already threatened from a couple of corners before a well-worked short corner saw Sandro Tonali’s whipped cross headed home by Nick Woltemade.

Interestingly, Tonali was on all set piece duties and the Italian’s delivery, in the main, was excellent.

At the other end there were notable scares from one of Arsenal's biggest weapons, especially in the first half when deep corners often found a player in red unmarked beyond the far post. Newcastle held out, but ultimately couldn’t for the full 90 minutes.
