RECORDING STUDIO APPROVED FOR QUAYSIDE WILL 'OPEN DOOR FOR NEW TALENT TO THRIVE'

- By DANIEL HOLLAND

Sounds like a plan...

The Coronation Building, centre, on the Quayside in Newcastle, will be home to a new music and podcast production hub

A "WORLD class" recording studio on Newcastle Quayside is set to open in a matter of months after winning the approval of city planners.

The project to turn the historic Coronation Building into a state-of-the-art music and podcast production hub has now secured approval from Newcastle City Council.

It is hoped that the vision will offer a huge boost to Tyneside’s cultural sector, on the back of Newcastle hosting both the MOBO Awards and Mercury Prize this year, and give more talented local artists the opportunity to emulate the likes of Sam Fender and Jade Thirlwall.

A conversion of the building is already under way and it is hoped it will open in April 2026.
