Rugby club's ball found miles away in Denmark

THE chair of a Whitley Bay rugby club and some German tourists both got a surprise when a ball from the coastal town washed up on a beach in Denmark.

Rockliff Rugby Club chairman Andrew Sugden was contacted by holidaymaker Bernd Terbeek, who had found the ball whilst enjoying a summer break with his family in Lonstrup, Denmark.
Andrew says he doesn't quite know how the ball got into the sea in the first place - though he does have some ideas. At the end of each rugby season, volunteers from the club donate used rugby balls to the toy bins on Whitley Bay Beach.
