OLDER BOY 'TOOK BRUNT OF CRASH' ON HIS LEG, SAYS MUM
A BRAVE teen has been hailed a hero after he rescued his little brother moments before a collision.
Jamie Bewick had seconds to react before his mum’s car was hit from behind near the A189 Spine Road last Monday.
The family had exited their Ford Focus after it broke down on the slip road near the Three Horseshoes Roundabout heading towards Ashington.
But after moving the car to the bottom of the slip road, which they felt was the safest and least obstructive location, it was involved in a collision which resulted in Jamie and his mum Toni being hospitalised. However, thanks to Jamie’s quick-thinking actions, his eight-year-old brother Matthew managed to escape injury.
The 17-year-old immediately picked his brother up and “threw” him out of the way of the oncoming car, which then collided with Jamie’s ankle.
