A COUNCIL worker was driving to work in March from his Chapel House home when he saw a house fire and two people shouting for help from an upper window.
Luckily, quick-thinking James Kilpatrick, 38, who works as a joiner for Newcastle City Council knew he had a ladder on his vehicle and that he could help.
His potentially lifesaving intervention took place as he was driving along Silver Lonnen in Fenham. He pulled over and quickly set up his ladder and brought the people - a dad and his young son - to safety.
James has now been honoured with a special council award - and he said he was incredibly proud of his actions.
