Person saved from sea by Coastguard

A PERSON was rescued from the sea at Blyth following a huge emergency services response in the Northumberland town on Saturday evening.

The incident took place in the hour before the town’s fireworks display was due to start.

The person was successfully rescued by coastguard staff and taken to the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital at Cramlington by ambulance. Local politicians thanked the emergency services for their professionalism.

In a social media post, a representative from Blyth Coastguard Rescue said: “The team have been inundated with messages about an incident tonight, we can confirm the following statement as facts.
