Magpies must contain Dom to carry on momentum

IF Newcastle are to keep the home fires burning - and they must to reenter the land of plenty at the top end of the Premier League - then they have to spike the ambition of Leeds.

It was thought before this season got under way that the three promoted clubs would do well to avoid going straight back down. Sunderland were the first to baulk at such presumption, taking off to soar into blue skies, and now Leeds are threatening to pull well away from the deadly dungeon. Only Burnley of the promoted look doomed.

Leeds are currently unbeaten in seven, their longest run since 2001, and stand eight points clear of the relegation mire.

However, for our United that must be viewed as a challenge to overcome, not an obstacle the size of Becher’s Brook.

Having at last kept a clean sheet in beating Crystal Palace the defence must carry that confidence forward while the strikers have to start scoring again - midfielder Bruno and centre-half Malick Thiaw were the successful marksmen who shot down the Londoners.
