SINGER Jade Thirlwall and restaurateur Richard Ord, both of South Shields, are to be given the Honorary Freedom of South Tyneside.

- By OWEN YOUNGER

South Tyneside Council agreed to bestow the honours on the pop music icon and the seafood specialist.

Council members have recognised musician Jade for her outstanding contributions as a cultural ambassador to the area, as well as her ongoing commitment to South Tyneside.

Richard Ord, owner of the award-winning Colmans Fish and Chip restaurant and Seafood Temple, will also be honoured for his exceptional entrepreneurship, philanthropy and services to the hospitality industry.

Jade’s music career began when she auditioned for The X Factor, and she went on to win the show in 2011 as part of Little Mix, alongside fellow South Shields native Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jesy Nelson.
