THE owner of a South Tyneside deli has started a feeding frenzy with the launch of a giant new sandwich guaranteed to satisfy the biggest appetite.

- By BARBARA HODGSON

Dean Marshall, who runs Les’ Deli in Jarrow, came up with the Scooby Doo - a whopping sarnie packed with meats, cheese and a special sauce.

His shop based at Jarrow Business Centre, which also offers deliveries, has become known for its extra large portions and this time Dean has really pushed the boat out.

The 33-year-old from Gateshead, who has worked as a chef since leaving school, likes to keep his menu interesting by regularly adding new options plus offering daily specials.

The huge Scooby Doo is a half-baguette stuffed with peppered brisket pastrami, ham, slaw, tomatoes, cheese, lettuce, south west sauce - a homemade one mixing chipotle and burger styles to add a mild spice kick - and topped off with crisps.

It launched earlier this month and what was intended as a one-off has proved so popular that Dean is now considering making it a permanent feature of the menu.
