Man is crushed to death in bin

The Chester Chronicle

September 25, 2025

A 36-YEAR-OLD man was tragically crushed to death after the bin he had climbed inside was emptied into a lorry.

- BY RYAN FAHEY

Vitalij Maceljuch, born in Ukraine but a Czech national, got into the bin near the Wren store on the Greyhound Retail Park in Chester during the middle of the night and is thought to have fallen asleep.

Despite the bin being checked - including shaking it on its forks ~ it was emptied into the Biffa lorry with the contents, including Mr Maceljuch, being crushed.

In May last year, police were called to the Thorncliffe waste management site in Flintshire after his body was found moving along a conveyor belt.
