UNDAUNTED by the warm conditions, over 6,000 runners participated in the ESSAR Chester Half Marathon on Sunday with a good number of impressive performances being recorded.
"The spectacular Chester Racecourse is always a big hit with the runners," said Race Co-Founder Chris Hulse, "as is the route which takes them through the city and out into the countryside before returning to finish in style in front of Chester Town Hall".
Corrin Leeming of Western AC was this year's winner in a time of 1:07:21, followed by Marshall Smith of Ashford AC (1:08:19) and Cameron Hannon of St Helens Striders (1:09:47).
The first woman to cross the line was Melissa Gibson of Ealing Eagles who finished in a time of 1:15:50, followed by Tessa McCormick of Vale Royal AC (1:18:08) and Carolyn Hay of Mansfield Harriers (1:22:35).
As the main race was in progress, 700 children and adults also enjoyed a trot around Chester Racecourse in the 1 mile Family Fun Run.
"The runners are expected to raise a phenomenal £750,000 for charity this year," said Chris.
