Xiaomi supplier to open Indian smartphone plant

Dixon Technologies India Ltd, a supplier to Xiaomi Inc, plans to open a sizable new facility on the outskirts of New Delhi as India encourages Chinese tech companies to work with local assembly partners.

According to people familiar with the situation who asked to remain anonymous because the situation is private, Dixon will invest more than four billion rupees (US$48.2 million or RM225.37 million) over the course of three years in the factory, which is spread out over more than 300,000 square feet, or the size of six football fields, and will primarily produce Xiaomi smartphones. A government official is scheduled to officially open the plant at the end of this month.
