U'KHAND FARMERS SEE 10-20 PER CENT INCOME BOOST THANKS TO MILLET CULTIVATION, IIM KASHIPUR STUDY

Efforts by the central and state governments to promote millet cultivation in Uttarakhand have led to a significant increase in yearly income for 75% of millet farmers, with incomes rising between 10% to 20%.

A recent study conducted by the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Kashipur, sheds light on the significant impact of government initiatives promoting millet cultivation in Uttarakhand. The study, titled “Millet Production in Uttarakhand: An Empirical Analysis of its Socio-Economic Impact and Marketability Challenges,” surveyed over 2,100 farmers in the region, revealing compelling insights into the economic dynamics of millet farming.

According to the findings, approximately 75% of millet farmers in Uttarakhand have experienced a notable increase in their yearly income, ranging between 10% to 20%. This surge in income can be attributed to the concerted efforts by both the central and state governments to promote millet cultivation, capitalizing on the crop’s sustainability and nutritional benefits.
