UAE launches life protection plan for Indian blue-collar laborers

India’s consulate in Dubai has launched a new insurance package aimed at providing financial support to blue-collar Indian workers and their families in the event of natural or accidental deaths.

The initiative seeks to address the absence of mandatory insurance coverage for natural deaths among employees, ensuring that legal heirs and dependents receive compensation in such cases.

According to a press release issued by the Consulate General of India in Dubai on Tuesday, the initiative was prompted by the observation that most companies in the UAE insure their employees primarily under Health Insurance and Workers’ Compensation, which cover workrelated injuries and deaths. However, there is typically no mandatory insurance coverage for natural deaths, leaving families without compensation in the unfortunate event of a worker’s demise.
