Survey Reveals Water Burden Crushing Delhi's Poor

Greenpeace survey shows Delhi's poor spend heavily on water amid rising shortages.

- TDG NETWORK

At least 34 per cent of low-income households in Delhi are compelled to spend 15 per cent of their monthly income to access basic drinking water, a survey conducted by Greenpeace India has revealed.

The findings point to a deep-rooted inequality in water distribution and highlight the everyday crisis faced by thousands of families in the capital.

The survey, conducted across 12 localities of the city, shows that households earning between Rs 6,000 and Rs 10,000 per month are struggling to secure drinking water, particularly during the peak summer months when supply disruptions occur frequently.

The report noted that during these months, water availability becomes even more inconsistent, further burdening already vulnerable families.
